Lucy carries Natsu while Gray carries Erza so they can flee. Selene sends Mimi and Hakune after them as she faces Suzaku. Touka opens a portal, allowing Team Natsu to escape. As such, Mimi carries Hakune and uses her nose to track them. Meanwhile, Selene attacks Suzaku, but he counters her attacks. His Kurunugi Style Battoujutsu causes a scratch on Selene. Upon hearing the name, Selene becomes unhinged and decides to unleash her full powers.

On Earthland, Selene’s unleashing causes tides to rise, catching Mercphobia’s attention. Selene launches an assault on Suzaku, forcing him back. Back at the Whiteout Village, Mimi and Hakune show up before Wendy has a chance to work. Gray and Hakune battle while Mimi fights Lucy. However, Lucy is no match for Mimi after Mimi unleashes her full power.

Mimi knocks Lucy back to a convenient pond, where she summons Aquarius. Mimi immediately shifts targets and consumes all of Aquarius’s water attack. When Mimi attacks Aquarius, the Celestial Spirit turns to water. Lucy, using Gemini, casts Urano Metoria. Mimi doesn’t go down, but does get knocked out as Lucy collapses from exhaustion.

Thoughts/Review:

Ah yes, we get the “I can defeat you in one blow” opponent in Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 23. I kinda figured Suzaku would immediately turn on Team Natsu once he discovered their identity. (That was deliberately done slow for comedic purposes.) Yeah, I get that this was done to not only show how powerful Suzaku is, but then when he fights Selene, to show how Team Natsu could not hope to win against her, at least not without insane amounts of “nakama power”.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 23

Regarding Lucy’s fight with Mimi, I will admit to the fight amusing me. It is a cliche in shounen titles to scream out attack names. So I did chuckle when Mimi scoffed at Lucy naming attacks after herself, only for Mimi to decide that it was actually cool. And yeah, it was a plot contrivance for Lucy to get beaten to a pond so she could summon Aquarius. However, at the end of the day, I let it ride.

As to Selene’s fight with Suzaku, it is interesting that the name Kurunugi caused her attitude to change. Obviously, Kurunugi was a dragon close to Selene. It was someone she fought with. So it could be a husband. However, I got a “mama bear” vibe off her reaction to hearing Suzaku consumed Kurunugi. So I suspect the dragon is a son or daughter of Selene.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 23

I really can’t predict the resolution of Selene’s fight with Suzaku. There are reasons I can see the story having Selene defeat Suzaku in order to face Team Natsu. On the other hand, there are reasons I could see Suzaku defeating Selene to maintain the Diabolos mystique. But this somehow leads to Team Natsu having a rematch with Suzaku. Oh yeah, and Selene repents as a result. That’s Mashima-sensei style. 😂

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

In the end, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 23 was pretty enjoyable with some humor to boot. I’m still not sold on these omake stories told at the start of the episode for comedy purposes. In this specific case, I it was a way to work Juvia into the episode. And while this omake short was fine on its own, it still is jarring when you are expecting to pick up where you left off.
